# Featured Snippet

A Featured Snippet is a highlighted search result that Google displays above organic listings at position zero. It extracts a direct answer from a website and presents it as text, list, or table. Users get the information without visiting the target page, a classic zero-click scenario.

Featured Snippets differ from Rich Results through their function as direct answers. While Rich Results display structured data like ratings or events, a snippet answers a specific question. Google decides algorithmically which page gets position zero, you can't buy it. The difference to Knowledge Panels: snippets always come from external sources, panels from Google's own knowledge graph.

In B2B contexts, Featured Snippets matter for [search intent](https://blckalpaca.at/en/glossary/search-intent) with informational character. When your audience searches for "What is [Account-Based Marketing](https://blckalpaca.at/en/glossary/account-based-marketing)" or "How does [lead scoring](https://blckalpaca.at/en/glossary/lead-scoring) work," the snippet delivers the answer. Your brand gains visibility, but traffic stays out. That's the trade-off: authority versus clicks. For [thought leadership](https://blckalpaca.at/en/glossary/thought-leadership) this works, for direct conversion it doesn't. B2B companies in DACH markets optimize specifically for snippets on top-of-[funnel](https://blckalpaca.at/en/glossary/funnel) questions while focusing on classic rankings for bottom-of-funnel keywords.

The limit lies in control. Google selects what appears as a snippet and changes the selection without warning. You can deliver structured content but get no guarantee. More problematic: even when you win the snippet, your [click-through rate](https://blckalpaca.at/en/glossary/click-through-rate) can end up lower than at position one without a snippet, because the answer already sits in the search results. This makes Featured Snippets risky for transactional keywords. If you run e-commerce or need direct leads, factor in this cannibalization.

For [SEO](https://blckalpaca.at/en/glossary/seo) optimization toward snippets, structure matters more than keyword density. Question as H2, answer in 40 to 60 words directly below. Lists with clear bullet points, tables with comparison values. Google prefers pages already ranking on page one, snippet optimization doesn't replace solid fundamentals. Monitor performance: if impression rate rises while [click-through rate](https://blckalpaca.at/en/glossary/click-through-rate) drops, you've won a snippet. Then you decide whether to keep it or block it via nosnippet tags.
